No fewer than 17 people have been killed in a renewed attack on a community near Chibok, south of Borno where more than 200 schoolgirls were kidnapped 10 months ago.
Sources said Boko Haram invaded Kautikari, about 10 kilometres to Chibok at about 8pm on Monday.
Residents said they heard heavy gunshots from different parts of the town, forcing many of them to flee their houses but Boko Haram pursued them into the bush, shooting at them. “Many people were killed,” one of the resident who preferred anonymity told 247ureports.
Another source claimed that the insurgents threw explosive devices into peoples houses, saying some residents were burnt to death in their houses, an indication the casualty figure could exceed 17.
There is no official reaction from the military as at press time even as thousands of residents were reported to have fled to Chibok and neighbouring Adamawa State for safety.
