The military has banned movement of residents in the troubled northeast Borno State, citing threats by Boko Haram to attack the area during the Christmas celebration
It said security reports indicated Boko Haram was planning to carry out attacks in the area
“Security reports at the disposal of the Headquaters of 7 Division Nigerian Army indicated concerted efforts by the Boko Haram terrorists to unleash mayhem on some parts of Borno State and in particular, the city of Maiduguri during Christmas celebration,” a statement by the spokesman of the 7 Division of the Nigerian Army Maiduguri, Colonel Sani Usman said on Monday.
Usman, a Deputy Director Army Public Relations, said the military consulted with the state government and other security agemcies in the state and thereafter resolved to ban vehicular movement from 6pm on 24th to 7am of 28th December to prevent any attack.
“The measure becomes necessary necessary in order to safeguard lives and properties of law-abiding citizens in the state,” he said
