Many residents have as a result taken to exchanging text messages, posting on their social media accounts. They were generally expressing dismay.
One of the commenters who is a civil servant wrote “I am totally disappointed by FG. They are now renewing the state of emergency for the 4th time without any good result. I think, the war is worsening more under the emergency rule. I can recollect vividly that the war did not consume all the captured LGAs, neither did it displace millions of people from their residences nor did it kill tens of thousands. So, we the residents of Maiduguri, have rejected the renewing of emergency rule. It doesn’t make sense… Are we not human beings? Are we not in democratic government? So, let the FG rethink and fight this war seriously”.
