One Tony Okafor recently wrote an article on New Telegraph newspaper dated 19th of October 2014 at page 13, captioned: Agulu Lake: Tourist Potential frustrated by politics. Quoting the very Tony Okafor verbatim;
“THE STORY IN TOWN THEN WAS THAT THE NEW GOVERNOR HAD FROZEN ALL ACCOUNT S OF THE STATE TO ENABLE HIM STUDY THE STATE TREASURY HOLISTICALLY, WITH A VIEW TO PROPERLY SITUATING THEM. BUT UP TILL NOW, IT DOES NOT SEEM THAT THE NEW GOVERNMENT IS KEEN ON CONTINUING THE AGULU PROJECT”
He went on further again to say;
“THOUGH OBI HAD SAID THAT DURING HIS REIGN, THAT N2.2 BILLION WAS RESERVED FOR THE CONTINUATION OF WORK ON THE AGULU RESORT, SOME OBSERVERS HAS BLAMED HIM FOR LEAVING THE PROJECT TILL SOME MONTHS TO THE END OF HIS EIGHT YEAR TENURE AS GOVERNOR OF THE STATE”
That’s just it. Act now and think later, trial and error governance that characterized Peter Obi’s administration is amplified by this development. When he freely gave out money to people and institutions that never needed the money in the first place, two or three months to the end of his tenure, did he not think about where Willie Obiano will get the money to complete the Agulu Lake Project? When he gave out millions of naira to individuals (some of whom I know personally) under the umbrella of settlement before his exit from power, where was the Agulu project in the equation of things?
When he took the posture of General Motors of America, by giving out cars and SUVs to people who never needed them before his exit from power, did it not occur to him that Willie Obiano will not print money to finance the Agulu Lake Project?
All the last minute reckless gift bonanza was purely to land-mine Willie Obiano financially and the result is gradually manifesting.
By the way, is Agulu Lake Project not one of the investments Anambra State supposedly has interest in, which nobody knows the percentage and the details of the capital contributions and the true identity of the core investors? Is it not possible that Willie Obiano may have observed some gymnastics that made him uncomfortable with the project? Tony Okafor quoted Peter Obi as saying that he reserved N2.2 billion for the project. Our governor’s silence with respect to setting the records straight to Anambraians is also not helping matters.
I wrote Governor Willie Obiano on the 24th of September 2014 and the caption of my letter was :
“A STICTCH IN TIME WILL SAVE NINE INTERMS OF EIGHT YEARS INCUMBENCY AS GOVERNOR OF ANAMBRA STATE UNDER APGA”
In the very letter, I referred to a statement credited to Igwe Alex Nwokedi, Traditional Ruler of Achalla Town, in an interview by Vanguard Newspaper dated 21st day of September 2014 at page 35 titled; COUNSEL FROM THE PALACE. He was asked by the interviewer whether Willie Obiano was performing and he responded “AS I TOLD YOU, I DO NOT WANT TO HEAR COMPLAINTS. HE IS THE GOVERNOR AND THE FORMER GOVERNOR SAID HE LEFT BILLIONS ON THE COFFERS OF THE STATE.”
It is now coming up gradually. Removing his head from the decking by addressing Anambraians on the state of the accounts handed over to him in addition to the forensic details of all those investments said to have been made on our behalf has become imperative.
It is still not late before our party, APGA, is caught napping. Let him open up. Our party must understand that the masses acceptance of a government embarked revenue drive that will come from their pocket is a function of the degree to which reasons that gave rise to it are seen to be beyond the help of the government of the day. Peter Obi’s gymnastic account to Willie Obiano is more than enough reason but they need the details from the horse’s mouth.
