The chairman of Onitsha South Council Area, Anambra State, Lady Ann Chukwuneke, was today allegedly impeached by two -third (2/3) of the members of the Legislativeย Council.
As earlier as 8.30 am yesterday, fierce-looking armed Policemen were seen at the Council headquarters, Fegge, who were said to have prevented workers from entering the premises while the impeachment exercise was going on.
It was gathered that the leader of the legislative Council, Hon.Fred Ezenwa reportedly presided over the impeachment exercise.
A vote of no confidence was reportedly slammed on her during the impeachment procedure over her purported high-handedness, Corruption and mal-administration.
In a swift reaction when contacted, the secretary of the Council Area, Hon. Silvanus Mgbechukwu disclosed to newsmen that the impeachment was sponsored by political opponents to the Council Chairman who never found anything good in her.
According to the Council secretary, “the political opponents tried to create a division between the Council Chairman and the Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano “247ureports.com, gathered that the impeachment may not be unconnected with the recent mayhem at the Millenium Market near main market Onitsha in which about 50 people reportedly sustained various degrees of injuriesย when the Onitsha South Local Government Area Chairman, reportedly stormed the market with over 100 youths to collect N50,000 per shop levy which the traders refused.
Consequently, on trying to stop them by the traders, a free for-all-fight ensued resulting in over 50 sustaining various degrees of injuries.
