Imo Deputy Governor, Prince Eze Madumere has blamed Nigeria’s woe on lack of good governance and good knowledge of her environment.
Prince Madumere made this statement in his office in Government House Owerri while receiving the team of participants in strategic studies from the National Defence College, Abuja led by Air Commodore Noah Oyibo.
Imo number two citizen however hammered on the need for leaders and security agents to have knowledge of the geography of their immediate environment and beyond, saying it is of strategic importance in warfare strategies and socio economic planning for the well being of the people and general development.
The Nation Newspaper adjudged one of the “Ten Most Outstanding Deputy Governors in Nigeria” however discussed the strategic importance of location of Imo State, which is found in the middle among the South Eastern States including Rivers States, which is of South South Geo-Political zone.
Continuing, Prince Madumere regretted the position of Imo State, which was created in 1976, in terms of development, which he blamed on bad governance despite huge endowment of both human and natural resources, which are not yet optimally tapped.
He also linked development to the culture of the people for which he said should be a function of the geographical features of the people. While enumerating the features that are of strategic importance in Imo State, he observed that people had forgone those areas that deserve attention for investment.
Speaking further, he said it was on realization of the forgoing that Governor Okorocha in his wisdom and vision established Community Government Council to re-invigorate the cherished tradition and values of the people. He revealed that one of the gains of the Community Government Council is to combat crime at the community level.
He further mentioned education as one of the major industries in Imo State, which he said has led to the intellectual contribution of the State in no little measure to Nation building. ” It was in continuation of this tradition and to make it all inclusive even among the children of the poorest of the poor, that His, Excellency, Owelle Anayo Rochas Okorocha declared absolute free education from Primary to tertiary level.
Continuing, The “Most Dependable Governor” described Imo people as the most hospitable people whose hospitable tradition has made Imo guests continue to feel nostalgic about the State.
The humblest Imo Deputy Governor said resources are not enough without making the environment conducive for businesses to thrive and for investors to come. “It is in line with this economic principal that our amiable Governor embarked on massive infrastructural development. Today, Imo is a safe heaven for development. The same thing can be said in the area of hospitality and Tourism. With the construction of Imo International Convention Centre, Imo has the capacity to host the world with other hospitality facilities in Imo State. We have just recently hosted over twelve thousand lawyers during their annual convention. You can imaging what trickled into the economy of Imo State, he enthused.
Speaking earlier, the leader of the team six of the participants of the National Defence College, Abuja, Air Commodore Noah Oyibo explained that their mission to understudy the geography of various State is one of the courses of their programme for strategic purposes.
He however revealed that Imo example following the transformation being witnessed in the State led to the choice of the State among others. He, however confirmed the positive impression they have especially those of them that have been to the State before now.
He therefore commended the State Government for her cooperation in ensuring that all they need for their studies are made available through the ministries and other agencies of the government.
He also sought the presence of the Governor or his Deputy when the team will be making a presentation on Imo State on 0ctober 21, 2014.
