Press Statement

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Rivers State Chapter says the All Progressives Congress, APC, is one flock of same minds suffering from the calamity of being ignorant of everything simply because they lack the courage to admit their ignorance of a great number of things including the dreaded Ebola Virus disease that is ravaging many parts of West African sub region.

The party came out with this while reacting to the APC’s unnecessary discomfort over the Transformation Ambassadors of Nigeria, TAN South South Rally in Port Harcourt over the weekend which was a huge success, and its senseless attempt to blame the party for going on with the event in view of the reported cases of the Ebola disease in the State.

In a statement signed by Jerry Needam, Special Adviser on Media to the State Chairman, Prince Felix Obuah, the Party said the APC’s continued hue and cry even after the event, and heaps of insults on President Goodluck Jonathan whom it is accusing of masterminding the rally appear to confirm the public view that all the noise about the Ebola virus disease without a corresponding action by Governor Amaechi and his APC chieftains in the State was mainly to stop the PDP rally and not born out of genuine concern for the health of Rivers people.

If these APC critics are intelligent, the PDP notes, they should know it’s cheap political point to relate the weekend rally to Ebola virus disease because by the time the alarm was first raised with the death of the doctor victim, Gov Amaechi was still holding political rallies under the pretext of Town Hall meetings even in and around the main Ebola danger zone – Obio/Akpor where both the hospital and hotel where the Ebola virus disease importer into Rivers State was harboured and treated.

“What sense does it make and what kind of patriotism is the APC’s concern for the lives of those who attended the PDP rally at a more spacious, organized and monitored Elekahia Stadium over Ebola virus disease that does not discriminate against persons or parties without a corresponding  concern for the lives of Rivers people armed with matchets, clubs and guns amid same Ebola virus threat to kill themselves over Town Hall meetings by Gov Amaechi and his cohorts”, the PDP queried.

While not wishing to join issues with the APC, the PDP warned against using the Ebola Virus disease to play politics if the scourge must be contained from further spread because the lives of Rivers people and indeed, all Nigerians are more important than the selfish political ambition of the misguided and frustrated APC leadership.

On the fruitless and satanic effort of cajoling the Minister of State For Education, and leader of the PDP in the State, Chief Barr Nyesom Wike, the Party said the Minister’s support for President Goodluck Jonathan is sacrosanct and will forever remain grateful to the President for pushing the State higher on the world map of political economy through appointments, empowerment, infrastructural development and human capital development etc.

Even though it has already lost relevance in the State, the PDP advised the APC to learn to pull off the veil over its face so that it can see well and retrace its steps from the path of self destruction for insulting and abusing an innocent man in the person of President Goodluck Jonathan to satisfy the whims and caprices of a berserk drowning man, Chibuike Amaechi.

“Nonetheless, it’s our prayer that the dreaded Ebola virus disease will pass our dear Rivers people by, and also pray that they abide by the simple instructions on personal hygiene while equally enjoining them to be more wary of the more frightful ignorance of the APC about the disease,” the PDP remarked, stressing that ignorance breeds monsters to fill up the vacancies of the soul that are unoccupied by the verities of knowledge as typified in APC.
