Okorocha Challenges Medical Researchers On Cure For Ebola, As IMSUTH Graduate 6th Set Of Medical Doctors

Nigerian medical doctors and researchers have been challenged to dig deeper into finding a cure for the Ebola disease rather than wait on the western world for a solution.

Governor Rochas Okorocha gave the charge at the swearing-in /induction ceremony of the 6th set of Imo State University medical doctors held at the University Teaching Hospital (IMSUTH) auditorium, Orlu.

Owelle Okorocha who promised that the Imo Rescue Mission government will continue to provide the needed infrastructural and medical/ research equipments to the institution to ensure that medical doctors come out their best , urged the new doctors to see their calling into the medical profession as service to God and humanity.

He congratulated the 56 grandaunts from the school and pledged a cash gift of N500, 00 to the overall best graduating student in medicine and surgery, Miss Olaedo Marcellina Izuagba as well as offered automatic employment to the young doctor upon the completion of her Housemanship.

Earlier, the Chief Medical Director, Imo State University Teaching Hospital, Dr Fredrick Anolue the Imo Rescue government for the improved infrastructural development of the institution and for the industrial harmony in the University through the implementation of the CONHESS/CONMESS salary for health workers in the institution.

Dr Anolue noted that the Protuex digital X-ray, Flourascopy, Computerized Tomography and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) will soon be operational in the Hospital and reaffirmed the genuine commitment of IMSUTH staff in playing its synergistic and complementary role with the University in training of various health professionals in Imo State.

The CMD further disclosed plans by the institution to develop centres of excellence in Minimal Access Surgery, Neuro-surgery and radiology. He therefore appealed to government to assist in providing working tools for some of the staff already trained in Germany, India and South Africa to perform.

The event which was chaired by the Pro Chancellor, Imo State University, Mazi Clement Owunna, featured the induction of the newly qualified medical doctors and presentation of Certificate of Merit and a cheque of N100, 000 to the overall best graduating medical student, Olaedo Mercellina Izuagba for outstanding performance.

Present at the event were the Secretary to Government of Imo State, Prof Anthony Anwuka, Commissioner for Health, Dr Edward Ihejirika, the Vice Chancellor, Imo State University, Prof Alloy Awuzie, past Medical Directors of IMSUTH and other well meaning citizens of the State.
