An Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) attached to the Central Police Station, Nnewi in the Anambra State Police Command was reported to have slumped following a letter from the office of Inspector General of Police, (IGP),, Abubukar Mohammed which indicated that he has been transferred to Maiduguri, Borno State.
The officer who is of the South East extraction and reports said has just less than a year to retire from the service was among the over 149 officers affected by the transfer to different parts of Northern Nigeria.
Borno State and some other north eastern states remain the hot spot of the Islamic sect, Boko Haram which has engaged in the mindless killings of fellow countrymen in the last few years. Just about 66 days ago, the sect abducted over 200 school girls from a secondary school in Chibok, Borno State
The officer however was said to have been revived by the doctors and other medical staff of a private hospital in Nnewi where he was rushed to the transfer which is said to have affected about 150 senior police officers serving in the State Command has cast dark cloud on entire Police Command personnel.
It was gathered that the list of the transferred officers signed by Dan Azumi Job, an Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) at the Force Headquarters, Abuja indicated that officers within the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) and Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) were affected in the mass transfer.
According to the signal from the office of the AIG, obtained by 247ureports.com, the affected officers were supposed to have reported to their new Command since June 9, 2014.
It would recalled that the Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano had about fortnight ago requested the IGP to transfer some of the officers within the police command following the allegation that some of them were colluding with criminally minded elements in the state, therefore making his battle against this social category difficult.
247ureports.com learnt that some of the affected officers are alleging ethnic bias in the transfer as most of the affected were said to be of Southern extraction, especially the Igbos who are protesting their transfer to the Boko Haram prone states.
Some of them who spoke to 247ureports.com on condition of anonymity alleged that while only two officers were transferred to Abia State, 12 officers were transferred to Bauchi State, Borno, six, Adamawa, seven, Jigawa six, Gombe seven, Imo one, Akwa Ibom two,, Cross-River, two,, Enugu two, Edo, two, Delta, three, Ekiti, five among others.
Meanwhile, the Anambra State Command yesterday demolished two buildings to alleged kidnap suspect in Ogidi and Ojoto in Idemili North/South respectively.
The State Police Commissioner, Mr. Usuman Gwary who led the demolishing squad also paraded 17 suspects alleged to be involved in kidnapping and armed robbery as well as hijacking of goods from traders in Onitsha as well as faking vehicle number plates and licenses.
He said that they had been in the business for as long time and that their modus operandi includes blindfolding their victims while making away with their goods, adding that 600 bags of chemicals with which they make plastic plate numbers were found in their warehouse in Asaba, Delta State.
