Following the arrest of close to 500 Boko Haram suspects which include a terror ringleader by soldiers at Imo gate near Aba in Abia state, the Aba

Area Police Command has intensified stop and search operation in the city.

Aba Area Commander, ACP Peter Wagbara who disclosed this in a chat with newsmen at his office said police has taken over flash points in the city and environs to smoke out criminal elements.

In his words, “We don’t want to take chances, not with the reported escape of two buses in the convoy of the travellers intercepted by soldiers somewhere close to Aba. We have deployed our officers and men to some flash points in and around the city to fish out criminals and strange elements.”

Wagbara added that police has also intensified its stop and search operation among motorists particularly the tricycle operators which he said, is the major means of transport employed by armed robbers and kidnappers.

The Area Commander enjoined residents of the city to go about their normal businesses without fear and report suspected people to the police who are  working with other security agencies to ensure adequate protection of lives and property.

247ureports.com gathered that tricycle operators in Aba now close shop by 7pm to evade arrest by security agents; a situation which has brought hardship to residents of the city.
