INEC to commence registration in 621 Polling Units in Enugu Over Incomplete Data

The Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) yesterday disclosed that it would conduct fresh registration in 621 polling units in Enugu State due to incomplete data.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner of INEC in Enugu State, Dr Lawrence Azubuike stated this during a press briefing on the Upcoming Distribution of Permanent Voters Cards(PVCs) and the Continuous Voters’ Registration(CVR) Exercise.

According to Azubuike, apart from incomplete data, there were also other reasons that rendered registration in the 621 polling units invalid.

He disclosed that details of the affected units in each local  government areas could be ascertained and accessed by members of the public during the display of voters list as scheduled.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner in Enugu State, advised those who fall within any of aforementioned categories and who are desirous of registering to participate in future elections to avail themselves of the unique opportunity.

“A total of 621 Polling Units in Enugu State have been targeted for fresh registration due to incomplete data and other reasons that have rendered registration in those units invalid.

” Details of the affected units in each local Government Area can be ascertained and accessed by members of the public during the display of the voters list as scheduled. In other words, all those who fall within any of the aforementioned categories and who are desirous of registering to participate in future elections are advised to avail themselves of this unique opportunity to do so” he stated.

He averred that INEC had concluded arrangements to commence the distribution of Permanent Voters Cards(PVCs) to registered voters, adding that Enugu State is one of the ten states in the first phase where the exercises have been scheduled to commence.

Azubuike further disclosed that the distribution of Permanent Voters Cards would start on 23rd and end on 25th May 2014, adding that the exercise would take place in all the polling units in Enugu State.

The exercise, he stated, would take place between 8am and 4pm each day, advising all those who registered during the 2010/2011 registration exercise in the state to visit the polling units where they registered to collect their PVCs.

He reminded registered voters that they needed to take the Temporary Voters Cards in their possession to the polling units as they would be tendered before the collection of the permanent cards.
