Parents of the security operatives slain in Alkayo, Nasarawa State on May 7 last year said yesterday that only five bodies of the 10 operatives of the State Security Service (SSS) were recovered, with two of the bodies identified and handed over to the families.
The parents who gathered at the Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital (DASH) in Lafia to submit specimen for DNA and post-mortem examination of three burnt bodies recovered after the killing, said three of the bodies remained in the hospital mortuary because they were mutilated and burnt beyond recognition.
Parents of seven other operatives whose bodies could not be handed to them were in Lafia at the weekend and told newsmen that they mounted pressures on authorities, leading to the medical examination which commenced Friday.
Leader of the Network of Parents of Deceased DSS Operatives, Dr. Nandul Durfa, a former Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital, told newsmen that the country is yet to see the worst, saying the Chibok incident and inability of security operatives to go into the Sambisa forest are consequences of government’s passive attitude on the Alakyo incident.
“Now, you think any operative will want to risk his life? They are demoralized,” Dr. Durfa, who was with other parents, said. He said the DSS and government gave “unsolicited amnesty” to those who did wrong.
