Men of the Aba Area Command of the Nigerian Police have foiled a robbery attack on a warehouse in Aba, Abia state and recovered assorted weapons including AK47 rifles and 97 rounds of live ammunition used by the gang during the raid.
Other items recovered from the armed robbers are bullets contained in three magazines attached to the guns used by gang.
247ureports.com gathered that the gang had invaded the warehouse located at No. 44 Clifford Road, Aba and were about carting away stored cartons of milk when a resident alerted the police.
On arriving the scene, the armed robbers who engaged the police team in a fierce gun duel, later fled when they were overpowered by the superior fire power of the police team.
A police source told our correspondent that some of the robbers escaped with bullet wounds.
Police Public Relations Officer of the Abia state command, ASP Geoffrey Ogbonna confirmed that when a search was conducted at the scene of the incident, AK47 rifles and 97 rounds of ammunition in 3 magazines were recovered by the police.
He lauded the rapid response of the police team to the distress call, stressing that police are on the trail of the armed robbers.
