The Bauchi State Police Command confirmed on Monday that unknown gunmen had shot and wounded one person in an attack in Wasasa village of Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area.
Spokesman of the command, DSP Mohammed Haruna, said that a five-man team of assassins who attacked a house in the village was seeking for two persons.
He said that on sighting the attackers, the victim ran into a nearby house where the gunmen chased and shot him in the leg before setting the house ablaze.
Haruna added that the attack occurred at around 5.00 a.m., saying it was believed that the assailants were after the victim and another man who managed to escape unhurt.
โThe gunmen, numbering five attacked the village in pursuit of some persons, and one of them was shot in the leg.
โThe victim ran from the first house into another one nearby where he was pursued and shot in the leg before the assailants put the house on fire,โโ he said.
According to him, the situation had been brought under control, adding that no arrest was made.
He said that investigation was ongoing, adding that the wounded man was receiving treatment.
He appealed to members of the public to report security challenges to the police and be willing to give vital information.
