A prominent hospital in Umudibia Nekede community in Owerri West Local Government Area of Imo State, Our Neighbour Maternity Hospital, is currently deserted by the staff and patients as men of the state Criminal Investigation Department CID), Owerri, swooped on the clinic to make arrests following the disappearance of one of a set of twins born in the hospital last weekend.
The hospital medical director (names withheld), was said to have been arrested with some of his staff over their alleged complicity in the disappearance of the baby.
Sources close to the medical centre hinted to 247ureports.com that the ultrasound report from the hospital on January 23, 2014, indicated that the woman, Mrs. Eberechukwu Peter from Umuchima in Ideato South LGA of the state, had two fetuses.
She was said to have been delivered of two male babies through caesarian section (surgery).
But after the surgery, only one baby boy was given to the woman, who the doctor had thought was unconscious during the surgery, but unknown to him, was awake and weak.
When the woman could not see the other baby, she quickly alerted her husband, one Ebere Peter, who flew in from Lagos.
According to Annoncer Express, the doctor denied that the wife was delivered of twins, advising him rather to ignore the result of the ultrasound test which he said was not always accurate but misleading.
However, contrary to the doctor’s statement, there were incidents that proved the doctor’s account false, as some of the female staff confirmed that the woman, said to be an ND two student of the Federal Polytechnic, Nekede in the department of Science Laboratory Technology, was delivered of two baby boys.
The state police command has confirmed the incident, disclosing that the proprietor of the hospital was in the police custody, helping the police in their investigation.
