Pledges to move the region forward
Governors from the South-East geographical region of the country met yesterday in Enugu Government House under the aegis of South-East Governors Forum to elect a new leader of the Forum.
After a protracted meeting which last over five hours, the Forum unanimously elected the Governor of Abia State, Chief Theodore Orji, as Chairman.
Outgoing Chairman of the Forum, Mr. Peter Obi, of Anambra State, while briefing newsmen disclosed that the meeting was the usual meeting of governors from the south-east region.
Continuing, Governor Obi said that some stake holders were equally in attendance during the meeting.
Said Obi:” We met for our usual meeting in the south-east for our overall development. We met to select a new Chairman for the Forum. As you know, I will be handing over on March, 17. The new chairman is governor of Abia State.
“He will steer the mantle of leadership of the forum haven completed my tenure. I urge you all especially the media to give him the support that you gave to me during my tenure.
The announcement  was greeted with a wild jubilation from friends, associates of Abia State Governor.
Meanwhile, while making his acceptance speech, Chief Theodore Orji, thanked his colleagues for electing him the chairman even as he urged the media to disseminate his emergence widely.
“I pledge to move the south-east region forward especially in the area of economic development. Â Obviously this task is a daunting one but with the cooperation of you(media), I will surely accomplish this task.
“I also assure you that I will  move the region to the next level with the active participation of all stakeholders.
Governors that were in attendance include: host, Sullivan Chime, Enugu State, Ebonyi, Martin Elechi, Anambra State,Peter Obi, and Abia State, Theodore Orji.
However,sources close to government house revealed that the election was keenly contested even as the host governor came last in the election.
Other stakeholders that attended the meeting include; former governor of Anambra State,Chief Chukwuemka Ezife, Special Adviser to President on Political matters, Chief Ben Obi and the Speaker, Enugu State House of Assembly, Barr.Eugene Odoh.
