A businessman kidnapped last weekend in Aba, Abia State, Gideon Okoaja, has regained his freedom after family members paid ransom to his captors.
Okoaja was abducted on Saturday at his residence along Emmanuel Avenue, Umuokohia near Aba by gunmen.
The kidnappers were said to have later established contact with the family members of their victim and demanded N15million naira ransom, N2million of which they reportedly ordered, must be paid before 11.00am on the same day or else they (kidnappers) would kill the victim.
It was gathered that after much pleadings, the ransom was reduced to N500, 000 which was paid by his relatives before the businessman was freed.
Efforts to reach the Abia State Command Police Public Relations Officer, Geoffrey Ogbonna, on the development failed, but a senior police officer, who spoke to 247ureports on condition of anonymity, confirmed that Okoaja has been reunited with his family members.
