Okorocha Calls For Investigation Into Missing Petroleum Fund, As He Partners ICAN

The Imo State governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha has called for the Institute of Chartered Accountant of Nigerian (ICAN) to investigate the alleged non remittance of 20 billion dollars to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).

Owelle Okorocha made the call when he received the National Executive Members of (ICAN) who called on him at the Government House Owerri. The Governor describe d ICAN as one of the most critical professions that can help mitigate against corruption and misappropriation of funds in the society, and urged the body to intervene in the financial problems facing the nation especially as it affects unaccounted funds in some organizations.

The Governor expressed resolve to partner with the institute of Chartered Accountants to establish a befitting secretariat in the state. He commended members of the institute for their decision to build a secretariat in Imo State and promise to provide them with land as well as financial assistant to ensure the realization of the project.

Earlier, the President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Alhaji Kabir Alkali Mohammed who led the group, commended Governor Rochas Okorocha for his exemplary leadership style which is dedicated to collective interest and committed to ideals of honesty, transparency and accountability.

He extolled the governor for appointing some members of their Institute in his cabinet and asked for more of such appointments

Alhaji Kabir who stated that they were on tour of the 48 District Societies of the Institute to strengthen professionalism, disclosed that the strategic position of Owerri in the South-East region of the country necessitated the Institute District Society’s resolve to build a secretariat in Owerri which would provide such facilities as conducive examination halls, library services for the students and offices. He further solicited the state government’s assistance in providing a plot of land and logistics to facilitate the building.
