Governor of Nasarawa state, Umaru Tanko Al-Makura in a concerted effort to curb the rising spate of ethnic and communal conflict in the state has engaged the service of 1470 youth/women as community watchers.
The special Adviser to Governor Al-Makura on Youth, Murtala Adogi gave the hint in an interview with journalist at the Nasarawa state NYSC orientation camp in Keffi, The S.A said those engaged under the community watchers are expected to be informant to the state Government on issues affecting their immediate community.
other trainees said Murtala Adogi also include youth/women to be trained as sanitary inspectors and traffic marshals, The special Adviser stated that 100 youths/women were allocated chances cut across the 13 Local Governments of the state.
Adogi said the state Government has voted N40M for the training which he averred that will last for two weeks, He further listed some of the challenges facing the initiative to the presence of pregnant women and the age.
Murtala Adogi affirmed that 80 out of the 1470 persons especially pregnant women, breast feeding mothers and the age will be exempted from the rigorous training, He confirmed that enough security and medical team are on ground to addressing any unwholesome situation.
Speaking to sanitary inspectors he said the trainees are to be posted to the urban centres to assist in environmental sanitation, The S.A said the effort was aimed at creating job opportunity for the teeming graduates and unemployed youths and women, He in addition said the state Government is to paid a monthly allowances of N10,000 per individuals.
it could be recalled that the state Government in a holistic step to tackle the rising spate of unemployment in the state is to train Youth/women on various skills under the Nasarawa State Vocational and Relevant Technology and Skills Acquisition centre .
it could be recalled that the state Governor last year travel to Singapore with the management team of the state Vocational and Relevant Technology Board with an aim of bringing in expert with technical know-how that will train youth/women on modern skills like ship construction and other electrical works.
