Robbers Kill Two Policemen In Umuahia

Tragedy struck on Saturday in Umuahia, the Abia state capital when two Inspectors of the Nigerian Police, Jimmy Johnson and Kingsley Etuk were shot dead by armed robbers who waylaid them at Ohiya village on the Umuahia —-Enugu Expressway.

The late police officers, who served at Eziama and Central Police Divisions, Aba respectively, were on escort duty accompanying a staff of Abatex Pools Nigeria Limited, Aba to Umuahia to distribute coupon materials for the weekend game when the gunmen struck.

247ureports.com gathered that the robbers operating in a Mercedes 190 model caught up with the policemen at a bad spot on the road and started firing. They shot dead the two policemen, pulled the driver and the staff of the company out of the car unharmed before making away with N850, 000.

Residents of the area said a team of policemen were alerted to the incident where they came and met their two colleagues dead lying in the pool of their blood while the driver and the staff of the company were crying.

A police source at the State Criminal Investigations Department (SCID), Umuahia told 247ureports.com that the robbers also made away with the police officers’ AK- 47 riffles.

Contacted on phone, spokesman of the Abia state police command, Geoffrey Ogbonna who confirmed the death of the police officers, added that the driver and the staff of Abatex are in police custody while investigations have commenced.
