Unidentified gunmen have killed a middle aged man, Chigozie Ejinwama, in Aba, Abia state after they robbed him and his girlfriend of their mobile phones, cash and other valuables.

The incident took place around 5am Sunday as Ejinwama and his girlfriend were returning from a night party they attended at a popular hotel in the city.

On branching off to Cemetery road from the Okigwe road, they were said to have met a gang of three armed robbers who attacked and dispossessed them of their money and phones.

According to the girlfriend, “The robbers searched both of us and collected our belongings. Chigozie angered that the gunmen were robbing him in his area, tried to stop them and they shot at him three times as he struggled with them. It was after they had left the scene that I started shouting for help before some of the residents now rushed out.”

A close relation of the deceased told our correspondent that he (Chigozie) who hails from Umunakanu community in Ehime Mbano LGA in Imo state was preparing for his Age grade initiation ceremony this December ending. He was said to have sent some bags of rice to his village for the ceremony.”

When our correspondent visited the scene, Chigozie’s body lay on the ground. Policemen from the Aba Area Command led by the Head of the Anti Robbery Unit, ASP Anari N. Anari were taking notes and ordered that the dead body be moved to a morgue in the city.
