Information reaching 247ureports.com from sources on the ground in Anambra State indicate that over 30 persons died in the early morning hours of today [November 2, 2013] at a campaign event of the All Progressive Grand Alliance [APGA] at a prayer house in Uke in Idenmili – Anambra central senatorial district.
Governor Peter Obi and his candidate, Willie Obiano had arrived to the prayer house [Adoration Ministry] at the early morning hours of about 12:15am to address the audience that had come for night vigil.
The arrival caught the audience unaware and surprising. And as Peter Obi mounted the stage to address the audience – the audience broke out in a quiet murmur – unsure of what to make of it, the Governor continued to deliver his campaign speech with Willie Obiano standing beside him. Governor Peter Obi promised to make available N5million to the prayer house to help tackle a gully erosion site near the Adoration grounds.
As he spoke, the quiet murmuring grew louder – followed by chants of ‘Onwa, Onwa’. And in reaction to the chants of Onwa, Willie Obiano/Peter Obi’s men including security operatives began rushing towards the area where the chants of Onwa was coming from. The chanters were moving away from the approaching armed men. In the process, it turned into a stampede.
At the end of the stampede, over 28 corpses were seen littered on the grounds. An estimate of over 200 were injured. A large percent of the dead and injured are believed to be Ngige supporters, this is according to one of the survivors of the stampede – who also added that “they rejected Obiano and willie and were chanting Ngige Ngige it took hours to calm the crowd by Father Ebube Muonso so that Peter Obi could speak. Peter Obi made donation of N2million to the Reverend Father. The Father rejected it and ask him to give that to the poor whom he have starved for years. And later there was a stampede. The stampede that has caused several false claims from many quarters is quite alarming and it is as a result of this that I’m giving a detailed account of events that transpired.
Peter Obi,Willie Obiano and the APGA team left the Adoration ground around 3 or 4 am in the morning while the incident happened at the end of the adoration service. After the final blessings and as people will slowly marching to the exit, a mole;supposedly someone positioned at the exit to raise the alarm,started shouting fire fire fire fire from the outside of the arena. Given the large numbers of people slowly moving out of the ground,they hurriedly began rushing back into the adoration ground to avoid the fire;a fire which many of them didn’t even see.
This caused many of them to be wounded and I was lucky nothing happened to people close to me. Some fainted while others lost consciousness. When the stampede subsided,the bodies were gathered and were prayed for. Many of them rose up after the prayers and sprinkling of the holy water while the remaining were taken to Crown Hospital while one was taken to St. Charles Borromeo hospital Onitsha. Many of the unconscious are regaining stability as at now and we thank God that some professed dead are returning to life;this has brought some amount of joy in front of Crown hospital. This is an individual report and has nothing to do with any political party. This is the state of things and how it occurred at Uke. Bodies numbering between 10 and 30 were carried away from the ground but official statistics and reports is yet to be released from the Adoration ground or from the hospital.

i am a living witness to d incident dat occurred at d prayer ground, uke. and i hereby clear d name of obi from d guilt people bestow upon him in support of what my brother in Christ (Martin Beck nworah ) said. it was never between ngige and obi and no deaths confirmed yet so let us not give Satan any glory for he deserves it not. you can go and confirm by yourself and do not rely on any hearsay. but why would it always be someone else to take d blame and not ngige cos i can remember back in his regime when anambra broadcasting service got burnt and all he was busy doing was finding whom to blame instead and now he is doing it again to take up some useless glory by himself.
