The tempo of activities at the Imo State House of Assembly seem to have grown in proportion presently as Law Makers set to screen Governor Rochas Okorocha’s nominees while lobbyists make last minute efforts to seeing their preferred candidates scale through with less stress but, the turn of events have shown the Rt. Hon Benjamin Uwajumogu led House is sticking their guns rightly as the Speaker upon setting the Screening Committee charged the members to shun every primordial interest in carrying the constitutional role for the benefit of the State
According to the Speaker, in the period we are demands men and women of passion, intellect and focus that would help to drive the policies of the Administration to making further impact in the lives of the citizenries. Indeed, as an indication of the path, the Screening Committee headed by the deputy-Speaker, Pharm Donatus Ozoemena has swung into action with a call on the nominees to produce 30 copies of Curriculum Vitea for the purpose.
Meanwhile, in a swift action that has started raising dust on the persons of the nominees as petitions continue to flood the House, Governor Okorocha has withdrawn 3 of the Commissioner nominees with two, Mr Kenneth Emelu,Dr Iheanyi Nwachukwu having served in the former cabinet and another, a new entrant and Port-Harcourt businessman . Also, the State governor had in another twist withdrew names of persons earlier nominated as members of the State Judicial Commission making some person describe same as an indication that the Law Makers’ insistence in applying the law following outcries by the public that most of the appointees has never attained the mandatory 10 years on the bar.
Reacting to the present situation, the Special Assistant (Media) to the Speaker, Mr Emeka Ahaneku states that the law Makers is only performing their constitutional role and desires but only the best for the citizenries.
