The Rivers state Police command said it has recovered about Twenty vehicles, one hundred and seventy ammunition including cash worth of seven hundred and thirty six thousand, six hundred and sixty naira, N736.660, from armed robbers and kidnappers with the period of July and August, 2013.
The commissioner of police, Rivers state, Mr. Mbu Joseph Mbu who was briefing journalists today in Port Harcourt on the command achievement so far also paraded about sixty nine suspects in various crime activities of cultist kidnap and car snatching.
In summary of all, seven Ak47, one pump action, ten locally made pistol, three locally made gun, one hundred and seventy ammunition of 7.2mm, Twenty one ammunition of 9mm, fifty nine cartridges, five magazine, twenty vehicles two matches seventeen mobile phones, three laptops, one cutter, one outboard, cash.
While Mr. Mbu explained further that about sixteen cases of kidnap were also recorded, twenty one kidnappers were charge to court and fifteen kidnappers was killed.
He also disclosed that a victims who are Thailand National Expatriates attached to Rivers state owned fish farm located at Buguma of Rivers state and kidnapped on the 9th of July, 2013, about 0700hrs by six armed men along the Kalabari Rivers and whisked away in a speed boat have been rescued on 17th of July, by effort of the anti-kidnapping unit operatives of the command.
According to him, the Rivers state police command has made tremendous effort in reducing crime activities in the state, stressing that with such effort the crime rate in the state has reduced to minim rate.
Calling on Rivers resident to assist the police with criminal information as it sources would not be revealed.
As further measures, the commissioner said they have introduced community policing in the state which he continue to said that they are into partnership with landlords.
He stated that the landlords will provide information about the life styles of their tenants including occupations.
The commissioner used such forum to called on individuals whom cars may have been stolen from any part of the states in the country to come forward with prove of ownership and claim their cars.
