From Odogwu Emeka Odogwu, Onitsha
A 70 years old man, David Chukwudire Orachusi (Onyekwuoto) from Umuchu, Aguata local government area yesterday proffered a truce out of the incarceration of Chief Bonaventure Mokwe, proprietor of Upper Class Hotel Onitsha demolished by Governor Peter Obi over allegations of harbouring fresh human heads.
Orachusi, young brother to Bonaventure’s late Mother said he has carried out an independent investigation into the claims of the Nigerian Police for his arrest and the reaction of the Anambra state Governor, Mr Peter Obi and the allegations that landed his nephew in incarceration as well as demolition of his hotel.
He said based on his findings, his nephew was framed up based on his investigation and Governor Obi was misled by high placed individuals into demolishing the hotel in a haste.
Orachusi, who is a transporter based in Lagos and into Real Estate said, ‘’ I have heard a lot. I have seen a lot and I have taken my time to investigate this information. I have visited my nephew in detention several times and have visited some places and people who are known to him.
‘’I have visited several scenes and I have asked questions. It would not be wrong for me to believe that these are enemies and detractors who framed my Nephew up. Those who did it never anticipated that the Governor will take the action he took and they never knew the consequences of the false information they were giving would be as grave as what happened.
‘’They had wanted to rattle him and have their way with their business but it turned very dirty and everybody is in a state of fix now. That is why I am coming with a solution to the imbroglio for the sake of our state , the Governor , Mr Peter Obi and life of Bonaventure Mokwe.
‘’But before I go further let me tell you that I know Mokwe from Childhood, because he was born a day before I entered the secondary school. I have known him to be an honest human being. I took pains to go through this investigation on my own.
‘’I can say without mincing words that Bonaventure Mokwe , my nephew is innocent of the allegations against him. He is innocent of the accusations but space will not allow me to narrate to you step by step efforts I put I to come to this conclusion.
‘’Again space will not allow me to begin to comment on what the family is passing through, the shock and the stress is severe on the children up till now. I don’t want to talk about the reputation of our family which is battered.
‘’I am only praying Governor Peter Obi to come out and say he is sorry about this situation because I am strongly convinced that he was misled into ordering for the demolition of the hotel which led to the continued incarceration of Mokwe, my nephew. If Obi makes a policy statement today in that regards , my nephew would be released by the police because he is still been detained on the condition that the case is between Mokwe and the state.
‘’ I am telling you that the police have been given unfettered access to investigation and I can tell you that they have not seen anything against Mokwe for that would warrant the demolition of his hotel and his continued detention in the police.
‘’ We are calling on the police to release him because he is suffering unnecessarily in detention. That is not right. He should be taken to court or released to us on bail as the case progresses. He is not running away to anywhere. He needs urgent medical attention having being infested by rabies. The Governor can still amend this situation now by apologizing to Mokwe and letting the world know he was not a criminal as he was painted by his enemies and find a way of easing the family this suffering. He should then direct for the arrest and prosecution of those who gave police wrong information , as that would be the only consolation for Mokwe’s and ensure more people don’t give police wrong information in the future.
‘’ The right thing to do now is not to continue to detain Mokwe in SARS Awkuzu even with deteriorating health situation having been inflicted with scabies and other ailments sequel to his incarceration.
Orachusi concluded, ‘’ I don’t want Obi to be dragged by this because he was misled into action on the spur of the moment without verifying. And I believe he must have seen and know the truth now and the right thing to do is to make a public pronouncement in that regards. The Mokwe family is known to Obi’s family and when Bonaventure’s father was alive, Obi visits. So the question is why would a house built by Boventure’s father donkey years ago be seen as proceed of crime?
‘’Obi as a governor is doing well and should not be dragged in this his election year but he has to speak out now. I don’t want to say that I am publicly handing over My Nephew, Bonaventure Mokwe to the Governor should anything happen to him, and that he is responsible. I appeal to Nigerians to appeal to Obi for the release of my nephew and ease out the suffering of my family.
