Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has described late Alhaji Alade Odunowu who passed away last Thursday as a distinguished personality whose journalistic works led to a better understanding of contemporary issues in Nigeria and beyond.
According to him, late Odunowu’s satirical essays on the state of the nation, which appeared in the Daily Times, provided not only a dose of humour, but drew the attention of the world to salient issues affecting the nation.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Public Affairs, Malam Imam Imam, Tambuwal said the death of Alhaji Odunowu is a sad loss as he was one of Nigeria’s senior citizens of outstanding worth.
“We will always remember him for his humorous writings that were at the same time laced with meticulous seriousness. We will no doubt miss his forthrightness and incisive contributions to national issues.
“On behalf of myself and members of the House of Representatives, I commiserate with his family on this sad loss. I also join other Nigerians in praying to the Almighty God to grant him paradise,” the Speaker added.
