Igbo leader Chief Rommy Ezeonwuka, Ogirisi Igbo, has thrown his weight behind Governor Peter Obi on the issue of local Government Election in Anambra State saying that the election can be held at any point in time regardless of when Obi’s tenure will elapse in so far he wishes to carry out the election as a sitting Governor.
It will be recalled that some opposition politicians, including political parties and civil society groups are opposing insinuated move by Governor Obi to hold the much expected Anambra local government election scheduled to hold on 5th oct. 2013 on the ground that it is too late for Obi’s administration to do so as his tenure is conspicuously elapsing.
But the Ogirisi Igbo in a press release in Oba which he signed and made available to News men in Onitsha, argued that there is time for every thing to happen and thus if the time for the election is now, there could be no reason for anybody to oppose it noting that the incumbent Governor can hold the election even when his tenure remains one month to the end.
The Igbo leader who is the founder and financier of Association of Igbo Youths (AIYO) insisted that the incumbent Governor has the right to carry out his legitimate assignments until the day of his handover, calling on the opposition to mellow down their antics of antagonizing the election with tenure issue and support the governor for the conduct of the much expected election.
Going further he reminded those that are opposing the election over the issue of tenure that the Governor is involved in massive road construction and rapidly improving on the standard of Education and Health etc in spite of the fact that his tenure is running out.
“Anambra people need the election and we have been yearning for it and if Governor Obi in his magnanimity decides to conduct it he is welcome by me and I’ m sure the good people of the will massively participate in the election so let’s all support the Governor”
On national issues Chief Ezeonwuka appreciated the concern of President Goodluck Jonathan for his concern on issues of Igbo interest like the second Nigeria Bridge, rehabilitation of Federal Roads in the southeast, involving the Igbos in his cabinet etc and most importantly working towards realizing un-interrupted power supply which according to him tops the programs of Jonathan’s Transformation Agenda.
On 2015 in particular he said that he will along with AIYO which have over 50% Igbo youths under control support the President Jonathan if he decides to run or better still support the candidate anointed by the President, hinting that AIYO is well prepared to mobilize Igbo support for Jonathan for the 2015 project.`
