Two Malian soldiers were killed and four others injured in a suicide car bomb in Mali’s north, a military official said Sunday.
Two attackers died in the blast on Saturday, which also killed a motorcyclist suspected of involvement in the bombing, the Ministry of Defence said.
The attack targeted a unit of the Malian army in Amakoudji, a village about 45 kilometres north of the city of Gao.
“We believe these are the elements of MUJWA,” an army official told dpa over the phone from Gao, referring to the Movement for Unity and Jihad in West Africa.
MUJWA used to control Gao until January, when a French-led military intervention ousted Islamist rebels from their main strongholds in the north.
In February, two suicide attacks hit Gao, the largest city in Mali’s north.
