The Rivers State Chapter of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) has called on the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Otelemaba Dan Amachree to throw in the towel following his apparent failure and inability to manage the political situation in the Assembly in view of the lawmakers widely criticized decision in sacking the elected chairman and councilors of Obio/Akpor Council.
ACN feels disappointed by the actions of the Speaker which demonstrably express his immaturity in handling the affairs and proceedings of the House which ought to serve as a proctor not only to members whose rights have been infrinched upon but to members of the public and heads of institutions and arms of government who are denied justice and fair hearing.
The Party in its statement issued in Port Harcourt by the Publicity Secretary, Jerry Needam also hinched its position on the disclosure by some members of the Assembly that the House, under Rt. Hon Otelemaba Amaechree, has rolled out laws that will further impoverish and dislocate the life and development of the State and the people.
It is also an incontrovertible fact that the Rivers State House of Assembly is at the whims and caprices, or better put, Governor Rotimi Amaechi’s rubber stamp, leaving the people who voted for them helpless and defenceless.
“One would have expected a neutral and convincingly objective action taken by the Rivers State House of Assembly in dealing with the crisis in the leadership of the PDP.
“What we have seen is the House acting as a tool in the hands of the Executive Arm of government led by Gov Amaechi, who favours a faction in the PDP crisis even in the face of a valid court judgment .
“We hereby call on the Inspector General of Police, the Director-General, State Security Service and all relevant security agencies in the country to arrest and interrogate the Speaker, RSHA over spurious allegations of plans to release notable robbery and kidnap kingpins from detention to carry out mayhem on government officials, innocent citizens and residents of the state and plot to kill the Governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi.
The allegations made by the Speaker of the State House of Assembly are weighty and the veracity should be ascertained by law enforcement agencies.
ACN warns politicians against unfounded allegations and making sweeping statements that cannot be sustained.
It is also expedient that the Speaker resigns honourably his position as his actions and posture present him unfit and unable to pilot the affairs of the hallowed chamber.
