The rate at which the Rivers State Government is wasting Tax Payers’ money and State resources on hired and sponsorship of solidarity visits and rallies has proved they can do anything to hold the Rivers people hostage.

The Rivers State chapter of the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, expressed this dissatisfaction while reacting to a handful of hired women who gathered at Government House Today, Tuesday, May 14, 2013, calling for the removal of the Police Commissioner in the State.

Lamenting this ignoble and unfashionable tradition of using an ignorant paid few to achieve an ulterior motive against the collective will of the people, the ACN in a statement issued and signed by its publicity secretary, Jerry Needam pointedly accused Gov Rotimi Amaechi of being egocentric and wasteful.

Jerry Needam regretted that a government that cannot pay its workers including judges and magistrates all outstanding allowances and pensions, would gleefully pay the sum of N10,000 to each of the protesting women just to further deceive the people.

The ACN spokesman also expressed disappointment that those women and other misinformed persons who are calling for the removal of the police commissioner in the State could suddenly forget their travails and the hopelessness of their jobless children, mortgaging their conscience for a pot of porridge and render themselves as willing tools in the hands of their real enemies.

Jerry Needam reminded the sponsors of the solidarity rallies and their cohorts of the implication of their action which he said is nothing short of anarchy and crises in the State.

“If they are not drunk and thoughtless, how can they be demanding that the head of the security operatives in the state be removed in the face of the rising wave of kidnapping, armed robbery and all other sundry lawless activities in the State. This is a direct admission by these protesters and their sponsors that they have been behind all the breach of peace and criminalities in Rivers State and no longer feel comfortable with a more resolute surveillance of our environment as has been introduced by the new Police Commissioner”, Jerry Needam alleged.

He therefore urged the new police chief to ignore the teleguided and sponsored call and focus on his mission in Rivers State which majority of Rivers people appreciate, calling those championing his removal as simply unwitty.
