Member representing Isiala Ngwa South state constituency in the Abia state House of Assembly, Hon. Darlington Nwokocha says Gov. Theodore Orji has laid a solid foundation for the state.
Nwokocha noted that the governor has continued to put in place basic infrastructure which his predecessors failed to do.
He berated former governors of the state like Orji Uzor Kalu for not making efforts to put permanent structures on ground for the young state.
“Most of the people making noises about Abia today like Orji Uzor Kalu, was a governor here for eight years, yet the state did not have a befitting government House. No Workers’ Secretariat with the Ministries in the state scattered everywhere. Most of the government buildings were on rented houses. No Conference centre that can accommodate people more than 500 people. Umuahia was a state capital only in name. Kalu should bury his head in shame. Most of the structures Gov. Orji is putting in place now should have been done by Kalu but he failed to do so, only to start making unfounded allegations,” he said.
Nwokocha added that Gov.Orji has made the difference with the choice of projects he has embarked on. According to him, “We can be proud to say that we have a state capital now with the legacy projects the governor is undertaking. Look at the Judiciary, new buildings are springing up every day, new Government House, the International Conference Centre, Workers’ Secretariat, Housing Estates and the new storey building and library at the House of Assembly.
“People are only assessing the material aspects, what of those in the human empowerment and mental capacity? We have travelled to Scotland, London and USA to develop our legislative capacity. In the Judiciary, the Judges keep going on training. Even the top civil servants are also being trained. These are the people who will drive the wheel of development. There are lots of positive things the governor has been doing in this state. Can you imagine if those before him had built the government house, Workers secretariat and all these basic structures? Abia state would have been at a higher level now. Gov. Orji has laid a solid foundation for Abia state,” Nwokocha concluded.
