*Urges Orji To Monitor Council Officials
Workers of the 17 local government areas in Abia state have received their April 2013 salaries.
A cross section of the workers who spoke to our correspondent described the development as the first of its kind and expressed gratitude to the state governor, Chief Theodore Orji.
They called on the governor to look into the activities of some management staff of the council who have continued to make the early payment of salaries impossible.
“We thank the governor for paying the April salary on time. This is the first of its kind, because we were expecting the April salary around second week of June. I believe this is the sign of better things for the workers. Ochendo should look into the activities of some management officials of the councils, workers have suffered enough from their underhand dealings,” a council staff who gave his name as Kalu told 247ureports.com.
247ureports.com checks revealed that the early payment of salaries have become a problem in most councils in the state as some officials like the Heads of Administration and Treasurers delay salaries released by the state government, leading to indiscriminate protests by workers.
