Six suspected members of the Boko Haram sect and a soldier lost their lives in the early hours of Friday in Kano as sect members engaged men of the Joint Task Force in a shoot out that lasted for hours. The gunfight which took place in Sheka Quarters also left a number of people injured.
Captain Ikedichi Iweha, the JTF spokesman disclosed that after the arrest of some suspects around Mariri, the JTF discovered the hideout and closed in on them. “We engaged the terrorists in a gun duel which lasted some hours. On our arrival at the house, they immediately opened fire but they were subdued by our superior firepower. Six of their members died while a soldier died of gunshot wounds later in the hospital. We were able to rescue five women and three toddlers, none of them was hurt in the raid “, Iweha said.
He also disclosed that some items including 2 AK 47 rifles, 5 magazines, explosives and 150 rounds of ammunition were recovered from the building which was demolished after the raid.
