Chime moves to revive Enugu Cool Industry

The Enugu State Government has began talks with some foreign experts in Coal processing on the possibilities of reactivating the abandoned coal industry in Enugu and its utilization to generate and augment power supply in the state.

 

Thee State Governor, Mr. Sullivan Chime announced this in an address to mark the Enugu State Special Day and closing ceremony of the twenty-four Enugu International Trade Fair at the Fair Complex, Enugu.

 

Governor Chime who was represented on the occasion by the Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Dr. Jude Akubilo explained that Enugu had become one of the fastest growing economies in Nigeria and a destination of choice for both foreign and local investors.

 

The Governor stated that in addition to the recent agreement with the Vitenamese Company for the reactivation of the Sunrise Flour Mills, the state government had also granted a certificate of occupancy to Beverages Manufacturing Company to commence production at Nsude in Udi local government area.

 

He maintained that government was able to attract a good number of investors to the state through its aggressive infrastructural development in parts of the state in addition to improved security of lives and property of residents of the state.

 

Governor Chime commended the ECCIMA for the good planning and excellent execution of this year’s fair and thanked all the participants for their friendly collaboration which had contributed to the economy of the state.

 

Earlier in his speech, the President of the Enugu Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Mines and Agriculture (ECCIMA), Dr. Theo Okonkwo expressed appreciation for the state government’s giant strides in infrastructural development and urban renewal which he described as a boost to the activities of the chamber.

 

Dr. Okonkwo promised that ECCIMA was prepared to partner with all stakeholders for the improvement on the operations of the organization.

 

In a goodwill message, the Chairman House Committee on Commerce in the Enugu State House of Assembly, Mr. Matthew Ugwueze assured the commitment of the House to ensuring full reactivation of all the state owned industries through active collaboration with the executive arm.

 

The ceremony featured presentation of souvenirs to some personalities and organizations including the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Enugu State Chapter, for their contributions to the growth of ECCIMA.

 

Certificates and awards were also given to some participants at the fair according to their performances and goods exhibited.
