The National leader of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), General Muhammadu Buhari (GMB), is enthused by the successful outing of the Super Eagles at the just concluded African Nations’ cup in South Africa. As GMB noted, the entire campaign of the Super Eagles typified the resilience, and indomitable spirit embedded in the Nigerian people.

Undoubtedly, the head Coach, Stephen Keshi, must be showered with encomiums for providing the right leadership that saw the players and the rest of the crew through a successful football campaign even when hopes were waning- a feat that drew loud applause from across Africa, nay, the entire globe. The conduct of the players on the pitch and outside equally evinced the discipline required of Champions. The players must build on this success to ensure another successful campaign at the confederation’s cup in Brazil in summer of 2013.

In the same vein, the Minister of sports, Mr Bolaji Abdullahi should be commended for keeping close watch on the team in the camp. Indeed, the Players and the coaching staff deserve all the accolades from a grateful Nation. However, this celebration must be done in moderation; the Super Eagles’ success should not be used as deliberate political weapon to distract from the myriad of debilitating issues assailing the Nation state. GMB remembers with nostalgia that as Head of State, the maiden edition of the Under-17 football cup was won by Nigerian lads in 1985.

Finally, it is the belief of GMB that if the sincerity of purpose exhibited by the Super Eagles can be transposed into the Nation’s political governance, Nigeria should be a better place.
