Elder statesman and one of the pillars behind the creation of Ekiti State, Chief Ojo Falegan has added his voice to the clamour for the Southern Senatorial district to produce the next governor of the State, saying; “It would be mere child’s play for anyone from the North or the Central Senatorial District to aspire to be governor of Ekiti State in 2014.”

Falegan, who was speaking at the launching of a book titled,”Zoning and Rotations of Political positions in Ekiti,” written by a journalist and columnist, Mr. Solomon Okeya, noted that equity, fairness and justice demand that the South, which has not produced the State governor since 1999 must be allowed to produce the next governor.

“This time, because, it was an age-long agenda aimed at promoting unity of Ekiti, the governorship must rotate among the three Zones. As it is, it is only the South that is yet to produce the governor and it will be natural that it is allowed to do so in 2014,” he said.

Also in a paper presentation at the occasion, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, Mr Bunmi Ojo described the agitation for the South to produce the next governor as an Ekiti Agenda.

Exploring historical antecedents, Ojo said power theory in the State, particularly in the PDP has been based on rotation and zoning.

According to him, “anyone from the two senatorial districts of Central and North, who express such desire is only engaging in mere political masturbation.”

Ojo, who was the Personal Assistant to former Governor Segun Oni charged people from the South senatorial district to demonstrate seriousness and not to compromise in the struggle to earn the position.

The ceremony was attended by representatives of all the PDP aspirants in the zone.

Ade Omonijo, who represented one of the aspirants, Prince Dayo Adeyeye said the agenda was beyond the ambition of any individual, adding that; “it is the collective resolve of our people in the Southern senatorial district that the next governor of Ekiti State must come from among us and that is non-negotiable.”

Earlier in his address, the author, Mr Solomon Okeya said the book was to stimulate the people of the South and leaders of the State from all political parties on the need for the zone to produce the governor.

Okeya, who maintained that the cause was just said every legal means would be used to sustain the struggle.
