The arrest of three Journalists attached to a radio broadcasting station – by the name Wazobia FM on Monday February 11, 2013 by the police force in Kano State appears to harbour a political twist.
Information reaching 247ureports.com through a competent source resident within the Kano metropolis reveal that the arrest of the three reporters – Suleiman Gama,Yakubu Musa, and Mubarak Malam may have been ordered by the State governor of Kano State, Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso. As gathered, the three reporters who spoke to reporters from Freedom FM [a sister radio station in Kano] stated that the arresting officers told them their arrest was ordered by the State governor. The smuggled interview was aired on the Morning of Tuesday February 12, 2013 on Freedom FM to Kano audience.
A source close to the activities within the Kwankwaso administration spoke on the arrest of the three reporters – as not surprising. This he stated while explaining that the governor had not been pleased with the general reportage of the Hausa program hosted by the three reporters. The source reveals that the Governor had on many occasions mentioned to his close associates that he suspects the Hausa program – to be sponsored by the friends and associates of the former governor, Ibrahim Shekarau.
Cursory investigation reveal that the arrest of the three journalists under the charge of inciting the masses against the health workers administering the polio vaccine – served a mere excuse to silence the voice of criticism in Kano State.
The three journalists remain in police custody at the Bompai police headquarter – where they are being interrogated.
