The Proposed merger of by some opposition parties in Nigeria is suffering initial set-back because of personal interest of the two major arrow heads among them.
Although the CPC Presidential candidate in the 2011 election Maj Gen Buhari has said that he will not contest the 2015 election if the New Party refuses to give him the tickect, but ACN committee members says that he is doing otherwise.
According to Nigerian Tribune newspaper, the insistence of former presidential candidate of the Congress for Progressive Change, General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd) on retaining the presidential ticket of the proposed merger party has created a drift in the camps of the former Head of State, and that of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, leader of the Action Congress of Nigeria.
Inside sources familiar with the merger talks told Hope For Nigeria that the talks was suspended for two weeks, with Senator Bola Tinubu reported to have told Buhari and his team that all positions including the presidential ticket are open in the new merger talks. It was further revealed that both the CPC and one of the major parties in the proposed merger talks, the All Nigeria Peoples Congress, are jostling for the presidential ticket of the yet to be formed party.
