Action
Congress of Nigeria, Anambra State chapter has been comprehensively briefed on
a recent informal gathering in Paktonia Hotels Awka, by one faction
of the All Progressive Grand Alliance under the cloak of Olu Na
Adagbe.
We are aware that the gathering which arbitrarily selected tens members
of their faction as probable candidate for the Anambra State governorship
seat in 2014, was fully sponsored by Anambra State government ,under the direct
supervision of Governor Peter Obi to further a confusing private
pact he has with his friends to succeed him.
It is a
matter for regret at a time when all responsible organizations are pensive and
or taking actions that would lead Anambra to understand why the lifeless body
of between 50 and 100 dead able-bodies men were discovered in Ezu River
at the precincts of Amansea border town, for which the state government has not
provided any clue as to what happened, a pseudopodia of the government is busy
wasting government funds in the ambitious scheme of trying to appoint a
governor for Anambra State.
Regrettably,
this body did not deem it to speak on this serious matter or address the
fallout of the hardship to the communities that depend on the Ezu River for
water, for which our state is solemn and moody, but went straight to the script
written by their masters in the government House at Awka, who has ordered mass
burial of Anambra State citizens without identification.
To the
utter embarrassment of Ndi Anambra, the group came up with what it called an
exclusive list of ‘ten candidates from which the next governor of Anambra State
MUST come’ (emphasis theirs). While admitting that the people who make up their
list come from one senatorial Zone, they advised all other ‘candidates’ from
other senatorial zones to ‘withdraw from the race or get disgraced’. What
impudence!
To crown
the missjive,the list released list as reported by the media, harbours the name
of an ex-convict , who escaped the United States of America to
Nigeria while on parole following an offence that ought to have implicated also
incarcerated another very highly placed member of the current knee-jerk state
government in Anambra State. It also contains a serving civil servant in the
state, as well as another with very complicated, but hidden health
challenges. This list short-list someone
who has only been resident in Nigeria for a few months.
It
requires no additional emphasis that a gathering representing a fraction of one
political party cannot converge to pick ten of their faction members as the
only qualified candidates to govern Anambra State, , and hope to be taken
seriously. This comment would not have been necessary if they stropped at
outlining the candidates they wish to support which is within their rights.
We are
convinced that as the race towards forming a credible government in Anambra
State from March 2014progresses it would be an embarrassment for any
serious candidate to be identified with such unbridled arrogance as taking over
the democratic duties of the state citizenry.
ACN is
proud and happy that none of its numerous aspirants,nor any other credible
candidate from any credible political party was found or identified
with such a gathering meant to use Anambra State money to short-change her
democratic credentials.
Our great
party wishes to advise all our aspirants from all corners of Anambra State who
aspire to fly the flag of our united party and be elected by THE PEOPLE OF
ANAMBRA STATE, irrespective of their primordial particulars to avoid being
identified with this financially ambitious group at anytime , our dear
state has since been liberated from this command- and- control brand of
politics.
Our party
shall at the appropriate time issue guidelines to the numerous aspirants who
have indicated interest in winning the ticket of our united party from all the
component parts of Anambra State to go through highly organised selection
process that would throw up the candidates that can fulfil the dreams of Ndi
Anambra.
We
therefore declare that the contenders for Anambra State governorship seat in
the state are yet to emerge and will need no introduction when they do.
