The First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, will Tuesday commission the Federal Capital Territory Youth Centre located in Nyanya.
The youth centre, concieved and nutured by the Hon. Secretary of the Social Development Secretariat, Mrs Blessing Onuh, is designed to engage the youth of Abuja.
The sprawling centre has sports facilities notably basketball court, handball/five-a-side court and a state-of-the art, 500-seater conference hall.
The centre is also equipped with a hostel and information technology centre that would accommodate more than 100 people.
As a revenue generating option, the centre also boasts of a standard printing press. The printing press is expected to cater to the printing needs of the centre and would be put to commercial use.
The project which was started in 2008 and experienced several delays was eventually restarted in August 2012 and completed this month.
“The project is part of President Goodluck Jonathan’s transformation agenda. It is a project that started since 2008. The completion is what I will attribute to political will.
“It is a project that is very close to my heart. A project I will call my pet project. I embarked on this project because when I look at the youth of this country, I tell myself that we will be in big trouble if we do not do something urgently”, she said.
“This project is designed to fully engage the youth to realise their full potentials just like we have done in our other rehabilitation and skill aquisition centres in Lugbe and Bwari.
“My boss, the minister gave us all the support without which this would not have been possible and our great mother of the nation, the First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, will hopefully commission it for us on Tuesday”, she said.
