*wants godfathers to remain buried!

The national chairman of the Labour Party (LP), Chief Dan Nwanyanwu
has charged members of the party to brace up for future greater
political challenges
The advice was dropped at the dedication and formal opening of the
Anambra state office of the party in Awka at the weekend.
A visibly elated Nwanyanwu, who was still smarting from a successful
re-election bid of Gov Olusegun Mimiko in Ondo state few weeks ago
hinted that the party’s disciplinary machinery would be unleashed on
those he described as trouble makers and non-LP members tactically
planted by other parties and opposition to cause disaffection in the
party.
Describing the party as the latest big thing in the country’s polity,
the chairman cautioned the Anambra state executives to avoid the god
father mentality, because godfathers in Nigeria politics have been
killed and buried in the state in 2003, one was buried in Edo state
recently and the remaining one has just been buried in Ondo state.
According to him, everyone in the party is equal- from the ward,
council to the state levels. That it’s the duty of the officers to
mobilize and galvanize all old and new members, “because if you have
the wrong people as officers and in authority, no one will like to
come into the party”.
Reacting to the protest march by some people led by the state
secretary, Chief Basil Iwuoba, at the gate of the new state
secretariat while the function was going on, Chief Nwanyanwu said he
appreciated it because it confirmed that the party is alive and active
in the state. He said, “I want more of it. It shows that LP is very
active and on ground here…”
He however frowned at the initial attempt by Iwuoba to cage the party
in his private residence, pointing out that political party was never
a family or village meeting; or company where one makes money from.
“It’s an association with which to seek political power. It should not
be in anybody’s private residence, for it to be transparent, free from
any form of encumbrances and to allow level playground for all
members”.
Iwuoba said he was disappointed in the shifting of the party office
from his house to the new location without due process. “I had thought
that our chairman is a true democrat. However we shall continue to
work in the interest of the party.”
State chairman, Chief Sam Oraegbunam said it was to give the party a
corporate identity and verve that made the executives task themselves
to rent the new office. “We are now very ready to go into mass
mobilization for greater political challenges.
