…Tasks NOA on Do-The-Right-Campaign
Imo state governor, Owelle Rochas Anayo Okorocha has called for all
political parties summit in a bid to bring Nigerian leaders of diverse
political affiliation into a round-table towards addressing the
political quagmire that has slowed down development in the country.
Gov. Okorocha, who made the call when a delegation led by
Director-General of National Orientation Agency (NOA), Dr. Mike Omeri
paid him a courtesy visit in government house, Owerri, posited that
such forum would provide the needed opportunity for Nigerian leaders
to realize the essence of embracing good governance in democratic
setting.
He said ” It is unfortunate that our democracy has continued to
produce more politicians than leaders and that accounts the reason why
the politicians only think about next election instead of next
generations. It is worrisome today that we do not know when to
discard politics for governance and the continuous mixture of both
politics and governance has continued place us far below what
democracy stands for”.
Gov. Okorocha, who applauded the initiative of the NOA boss, however
admitted that the Do-It-Right-Programme would go a long way to
re-orientate Nigerians towards changing their attitude as well as
build a lasting bridge that will sustain unity and peace in the
country.
He attributed the numerous achievements recorded by his
administration within the shortest period to sacrifice and commitment
to good governance which he said is the diving force of the rescue
mission government.
Gov. Okorocha reiterated his resolution not to play politics with the
development of Imo state even as he promised that his administration
will only embark on people-oriented programmes that will impact
positively on the lives of the people.
Earlier, the DG National Orientation Agency, Dr. Mike Omeri, who was
accompanied by other personalities including, the Gwom Gwom Jos, said
they were in government to felicitate with Gov. Okorocha on his
numerous achievements within the period and to flag-off the
Do-The-Right-Thing campaign.
He explain that the programme is designed to bring political parties
together as well as forge a relationship that will create an ideal
setting for good governance in Nigeria.
