In confirming the attack, the police commissioner added that twenty one bodies have been confirmed dead while many more were reported to have sustained bullet wounds.

Independent inquiry by our correspondent gathered that the attack may have been a reprisal attack targeted against the local vigilante who had recently attacked their group.

The group is believed to have originated from Zamfara State where sources allege they [group] escaped from prison. From Zamfara, they recently moved to Birnin Gwari in Kaduna State.

Available information suggests that some of the men belonging to the group may have been killed in an earlier altercation with the local vigilante men.

Some within the police rank indicate that this morning’s attack to have been a revenge attack by the group.
