The Member representing Kachia/Kagarko Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Gabriel Saleh Zock, has accused his predecessor, Hon. Umar Gurara, of allegedly diverting a N100 million Federal Government intervention fund meant for rice distribution in the constituency.

Zock made the allegation on Thursday while flagging off the distribution of 12 trucks of fertiliser to farmers in his constituency as part of his post-election empowerment initiative.

He explained that the fund was part of a Federal Government relief package under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, aimed at cushioning the effects of fuel subsidy removal.

According to him, the intervention was designed to provide immediate food support, particularly rice to vulnerable households across the constituency.

“It was on record that N100 million was allocated to this constituency for rice distribution under the Federal Government’s intervention scheme. Unfortunately, my predecessor diverted the funds, and our people never saw a single grain of rice,” Zock alleged.

The lawmaker, who returned to the National Assembly in September 2024 , via a supplementary election, assured his constituents of transparent and accountable representation.

On the motive behind the early distribution of fertiliser, Zock said the initiative was aimed at boosting food production and ensuring food security in the area.

He however revealed plans to roll out youth and women empowerment programmes in the coming months, stressing that his administration would not tolerate mismanagement of public resources.

“This is just the beginning, stressing we’ll not allow what happened in the past to repeat itself. Every item and every kobo meant for our people will reach them,” he said.

Zock appealed for continued patience, unity, and support from the people, pledging to deliver impactful projects and programmes that would improve their livelihoods.

While reacting to the allegation, Hon. Umar Gurara denied the allegation, and challenged the lawmaker to publish all documents in his possession regarding any intervention funds received from the National Assembly.

“The Rep member is merely making noise. I know what i left behind, yet i never publicly spoken about it because he collected everything. If there’s anyone to be accused, it should be Zock, not me.” Gurara stated.
