Idemili North, Anambra State — September 2026
The Amafor Nkpor Agu Community in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State has appealed to Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo to investigate alleged land grabbing and the selective demolition of a property on what it describes as ancestral land.
The appeal was made by the community leadership under APGA chieftain Chief Hon. Sir Emmanuel Idemili, popularly known as Oputaifeadi Nkpor.
The community said the disputed ancestral land was never formally handed over to the government, questioning its inclusion in an official gazette. It further claimed that a building had stood on the land for years, while an adjoining property had been separately sold by its lawful owner to the current occupant.
Chief Idemili questioned why one property was demolished while the adjoining twin property was left untouched, and alleged that individuals who had previously sought to buy or lease the property from its legal owners may have had a hand in the development. He suggested the controversy could be an attempt to drive a wedge between the people of Amafor Nkpor Agu — whom he described as loyal APGA supporters — and the Soludo administration.
The community urged the governor to order a transparent investigation into the ownership documents, the gazette, and the circumstances surrounding the demolition, saying the findings would help establish the facts and prevent further escalation.
Part of a wider pattern
The Amafor Nkpor Agu appeal adds to a string of land-related disputes that have surfaced across Anambra State in recent months, with affected communities repeatedly calling on Soludo to intervene. These include protests by residents of Umueze Ogwugwu Oba community in Idemili South over an alleged land takeover by a government-linked developer; objections from Ebenesi community in Nnobi over planned demolitions for a Transmission Company of Nigeria power line project; and criticism, including in a widely circulated opinion piece, over the demolition of sections of the Afor Nnobi market for road and flyover projects at Nnobi Junction. Idemili North itself has also previously seen reports of armed land grabbers confronting residents in Umuoji.
The state government has not issued a public response specific to the Amafor Nkpor Agu allegations as of this writing.
