ABUJA — Former Kano State Governor and National Leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, has commended the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) for what he described as their courage and patriotism in drawing national attention to the economic hardship, insecurity, and social struggles facing ordinary citizens.
In a personal press statement issued on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, Kwankwaso dismissed claims that the clerical intervention was politically motivated. He emphasized that the issues highlighted by the Bishops—including the rising cost of living, deteriorating security conditions, declining public trust, and pervasive hardship—reflect the everyday reality of millions of Nigerians across every region of the country.
Expressing concern over the state of the nation, Kwankwaso pointed out that despite Nigeria being endowed with vast natural and human resources, citizens continue to suffer from unemployment, poor access to healthcare and education, and shrinking economic opportunities. He stressed that addressing these pressing challenges requires urgent, sincere, and people-centered action from elected leaders and governing institutions.
The former Defence Minister urged Nigerians to maintain constructive engagement with the Federal Government and leaders at all levels. He called on citizens to consistently advocate for good governance, accountability, and public policies that prioritize the safety, welfare, and prosperity of the population, adding that collective commitment remains essential to building a peaceful and united country.
