ABUJA — Former Deputy National Campaign Manager for the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential campaign, Isaac Balami, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, stating that no leader since the return to democratic rule in 1999 has demonstrated as much fairness to Nigeria’s diverse ethnic nationalities.
Speaking on his political transition and assessment of current governance, Balami, who has since joined the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), revealed that his initial opposition to Tinubu during the 2023 elections was disproved by the President’s inclusive leadership style and strategic appointments.
Reflecting on his previous role leading campaign operations for former presidential candidate Peter Obi, Balami noted that despite his vigorous opposition during the election, post-election realities compelled him to reconsider his stance. He explained that his decision to align with the APC stemmed from a desire to support an administration that actively recognizes regional equity, particularly in key appointments and policy inclusion across the Middle Belt and other marginalized regions.
Balami emphasized that true nation-building requires acknowledging political performance over partisan sentiment, adding that President Tinubu’s approach to governance has fostered a sense of belonging among ethnic groups across the country.
