His luck ran out during his escape phase when an alert neighbor noticed suspicious movements near the building’s perimeter fence and raised the alarm. Local youths and neighborhood watchmen quickly mobilized, blocking the escape routes and capturing the suspect before he could disappear with the stolen cargo.
A History of Inter-State Track Records
Upon his apprehension, community leaders revealed that the suspect is a well-known player in an organized syndicate that cuts across state lines. He is allegedly notorious for moving between Abia, Imo, and neighboring Enugu states to target newly completed or unoccupied buildings, stripping them of expensive electrical installations to sell to unscrupulous scrap metal dealers.
Following his capture, the angry mob recovered several sacks stuffed with expensive copper and armored wires, along with heavy-duty pliers, hacksaws, and cutter tools used in the operation.
Handed Over to Law Enforcement
To prevent the situation from degenerating into jungle justice, community elders intervened and immediately contacted law enforcement operatives. The suspect, along with the recovered exhibits, has been officially handed over to the Abia State Police Command for profiling, interrogation, and subsequent prosecution.
Real estate developers and landlords in the Umuahia axis have expressed relief over the arrest, noting that the activities of wire vandals have cost local property owners millions of naira in damages. The police have assured the public that investigations are underway to track down the receivers of the stolen properties and dismantle the rest of the inter-state network.
