MINNA, NIGERIA – Frontline troops of the Nigerian Army have dealt a severe blow to the logistics and intelligence networks of bandits operating in the North Central zone, arresting ten suspected terrorist informants and collaborators during a high-stakes fighting patrol in the Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State.
The successful operation marks a major breakthrough in the military’s ongoing campaign to blind the operational vision of armed gangs, who rely heavily on local conspirators to execute deadly ambushes and mass kidnappings across the state.
The Morning Ambush
The tactical operation was executed with precision at approximately 10:05 a.m. on Thursday. Soldiers attached to the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Audu Fari launched a rapid intervention patrol into suspected collaborator hideouts following days of surveillance and actionable intelligence.

The troops intercepted the suspects within the Borgu general area, neutralizing what field commanders describe as a critical communication node used by armed bandits to monitor security formations and track the movements of local traders and farmers.
Dismantling the Informant Network
Security analysts have repeatedly warned that the asymmetrical warfare plaguing Niger State is sustained by deep-rooted civilian sabotage. Local informants are known to supply terrorists with real-time data regarding military patrol schedules, weapon distributions, and high-value kidnapping targets in exchange for cash or protection.
By cutting off this internal intelligence supply line, the military aims to destabilize active terrorist cells operating out of the expansive forest reserves that stretch between Niger and neighboring states.
Heightened Security in Borgu Axis
The Borgu local government area has recently emerged as a flashpoint for tactical operations due to its proximity to vital infrastructure, national parks, and border transit routes. The influx of displaced criminal elements into these dense forest covers has forced the Nigerian Army to shift from defensive postures to aggressive, intelligence-led raids.
The ten apprehended suspects are currently being held at a secure military facility for profiling and interrogation. Defence sources indicate they will be handed over to civil law enforcement agencies for formal prosecution once preliminary investigations are concluded.
