Allegations of certain anointed candidates of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) ahead of the State and National Assembly primary elections have been described as mere name dropping.
Consequently the party in Anambra has warned that it would not take kindly to the insinuations of those it described as fifth columnists who have gone to town to mislead the public and try to misrepresent the party in the area.
According to it’s state Chairman Barr Ifeatu Obi-Okoye;
“There is nothing like anointed candidates in our party and drawing inference from the party’s Code Of Conduct for the primary elections, it is preposterous for one to begin to go to sleep that our great party has preferred candidates before the primary elections”
Obi-Okoye further insisted that the guidelines for the screening of candidates were not made for anyone but are aimed at ensuring transparency in the Electoral and voting process.
“It is explicit about the conditions for the screening of aspirants and this practice of presenting affidavit in place of academic records is tantamount to misleading the party and we maintain that if you are not qualified, you would know before hand ”
“Again that goes to ensure that people do not lay claim to what they are not and inline with the Electoral Act it stated School Certificate attempted hence what is the need for someone to claim a university degree which he or she do not have ”
He urged party members and the general public to discountenance this spurious and bogus claims of the party having anointed candidates noting that people cannot win the party’s tickets through cheap blackmails .
“Our party cannot be subjected to cheap blackmails by some people and no amount of such stories can stop us from doing the needful and be it known to the public that our party would conduct the most credible and transparent primary elections in the history of party politics in Nigeria ” he promised.
